Spanish Puchero cooking pot. This is a 8 litre puchero and is perfect for all types of stews and soups.
This size of puchero is also the perfect size for serving soups etc at an event or party.
Traditionally used in Spain on open fires for slow cooked stews, especially fish. Due to the slow cooking and round deep cooking pot the fish inside does not get broken up. If cooking meat, the pot allows for larger pieces of meat on the bone to be submerged in the liquid without watering down the stew as you would need to if using a larger based casserole.
The puchero is a rustic cooking pot and is glazed half way down on the base so that when you place it on a gas burner the flames can rise up the sides. With today’s modern ovens though, you will get the same results!
As with all terracotta they require some looking after. They should be washed and soaked for a few hours before you first use them and always allow them to dry naturally before putting them away for storage. Have a look at our terracotta care page for more help and tips on getting the best out of your terracotta.
Earthenware has been used in cooking for many years and many traditional recipes are better cooked using these traditional cooking vessels as they add very distinctive flavour to the food.
